I’ve Got Sesame Street Fever

Group D Surgery Rulz! I really hope you get the reference to the title of this post, and the photo above (Bindi + Kendra hands).

Internal medicine is going okay so far, but it’s so very slow compared to surgery. The longest days are 12 hours, and we have no night calls. There is no “Group D” to bring me joy. We do virtually zero work, as we are no longer slaves to our residents. We are merely there to learn, and not to do the work of the residents, which means it’s a heck of a lot easier and less stressful. Oddly enough, I miss that stress, though. Maybe I just miss being needed.

Anyway, the other night, a bunch of my Group D folks got together at Life Cafe in Brooklyn for dinner and drinks. T’was just splendid to see all my peeps again. I miss you Group D!

And So IM Begins

Hand Stretched for Fluffiness Today was my first “real” day of internal medicine. I technically started on Monday, but we had orientation and Tuesday off for Veteran’s Day. Anyway, so far it has been pretty slow and boring. The schedule is SO much more laid back, compared to surgery. We have holidays off, and no night calls. We also have very little actual work to do, which is again the opposite of surgery. I’m interested to see how much I learn from this rotation.

Also, to answer a recent commenters question, yes I did get all of my rotations in NYC, and I will be doing most of them at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where I’m currently at. I might schedule some psych electives at another hospital, but for the time being, I’m happy enough at Wyckoff and I honestly really like how close it is to me. I HATE commuting, and absolutely adore my 20 minute walk to and from the hospital every day. It definitely beats driving, bussing, or subwaying.

Anyway, here’s to internal medicine! Hopefully I’ll learn a thing or two along the way…
