Living In Da Hood

Part of My

I just took my doggies on a nice (not long, but long compared to the crappy short ones they’ve been on recently) walk around the neighborhood. Two things:

1) Man I REALLY need to get some exercise. That was just was wonderful. But I haven’t gone running in weeks and that is BAD BAD BAD! I really need to get back on the exercise horse.

2) I REALLY like living in the same neighborhood that I work in (hospital). 2 reasons:

Part of My

a) I think it is FAB to live within a 30 minute walk to the hospital. It gives me the opportunity to get exercise, plus I get to really see the neighborhood.

Part of My

b) I love connecting with people. I like saying hello to the man who sells gyros on the corner every morning. And the fact that one day he might be my patient. I enjoy living similarly to the people I treat. They have to put up with same crime, get sprayed with the same fire hydrants, listen to the sounds of the same ice cream trucks all night long, watch the same man on the corner preach in Spanish, step in the same piles of dog poop. It’s difficult for me to put into words in my fatigued state right now. I just love being a part of, and giving back to my community. Especially when it’s a diverse, wonderful, in some ways “ghetto,” lovely, group of folks. With many stories to tell.
