ERAS, Bite Me!

ERAS!

I have entered the murky depths of the ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) waters, and I have to say that I have some serious problems with it. I am having major flashbacks back to my pre-medical days, using AMCAS, and applying to med schools. I will very soon write a thoughtful post on the entire process, but for now I just feel like some good ole skool ranting. It is incredibly redundant. It is incredibly time consuming. It is incredibly expensive. It is incredibly bass-ackward.

What ever happened to good old fashioned, hey I like you, you’re good, you’re hired! I just want a program to like me, and hire me. IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK FOR?!

ERAS BITE ME!

Here is a quote from an email from my friend on this topic, which pretty much sums up just the “beginning”:

“you have to create your CV in 3 million different formats just so they have your CV in 3 million different formats. and don’t forget to attach your own specific document submission form (hereafter DSF) for each 3 million CV. in order to create your own specific DSF you have to go to eras for which you need an ID and password for which you need an AAMC # for which you need to get a token for which you have to pay $90 thank you.”

Becoming a doctor is 5% intelligence/abilities and 95% perseverance.
