It Sucks To Be A Girl
I just got home from taking the USMLE Step 2 CK. Everything was going just fine and dandy until about halfway through. What is the worst possible thing that could ever happen during the middle of a huge, important exam? You guessed it, my female anatomy turned against me. I started having the worst cramps in the WORLD! I mean, I was in excruciating pain (gals out there know exactly what I mean). The pain was so unbearable, that I couldn’t focus. So, I just pushed through, but wasn’t able to really read the questions. I did a lot of guessing and didn’t read every word of the questions. I didn’t have any supplies with me, and you’re not allowed to leave the building. So, basically I was screwed.
Anyway, I am now loaded up on ibuprofen and feeling a little better. I’m mostly just glad to have the whole thing over and done with. I’m sure I probably still did okay, just maybe not as well as I could have. Oh well. Such is life. In 20 years I will prolly look back on it and laugh.
Anyway, it’s time to relax and unwind and get back to all the stuff that I have been ignoring for the past few weeks. I think I will start with a beer and a bubble bath.
My name is Kendra and I am a fourth-year medical student attending

Flashback to 4th semester pharm NBME. I was also nauseous with pain. Like you I pushed through, went home, and passed out on painkillers.
I did well, and i’m sure you will too.
oh yeah! USMLE Step 2 CS! with that terrible pain had to talk to the standardised patients with a faked smiling face and had to rotate through all those 12 rooms!!! horrible experience..no painkillers. anyways passed. Its a test upon test to see if we can endure! haha … m sure you must hv done well kendra.. gl..
Sorry to hear about the unfortunate timing of your cramps. I am hoping that you did well. Crossing my fingers : )
Hey Kendra,
I just wanted to say “Thanks” for all of your cool stories (dang mother nature) that you posted. I’ve been following your site since I started med school in Caribbean. I’ve been trying to follow of your advice like your study schedule, working out, and trying to find balance in effort to get the most out of the time that I am here on the island. I hope you did good on your Step II.
Take Care….
OMG- I had the WORST cramps and a killer headache that same day- sisters from afar–FREAK! I came home and ‘passed out’ on the couch immediately.. at least I didn’t have to take an exam during all that…. I’m sure you still kicked that test in the patootie though! (dear spelling bee champ, how do you spell patootie??!!)
