It’s About That Time

KC and the CK

Today is June 1st. I take the USMLE Step 2 CK on July 1st. That means I have exactly one month to study for the exam. I started my radiology elective rotation today. I specifically chose radiology for this month, since I will be studying, and the hours are short. Here is my basic study plan (not that you asked).

M-F:

7:30 – 9:00 – Get up, brekky, head to hospital
9:00 – 11:00 – Radiology rotation
11:00 – 12:00 – Walk back, clean up apartment, eat lunchy
12:00 – 3:00 – Read First Aid and “Crush” books, do USMLE World questions
3:00 – 4:00 – Dog walk/jog/exercise
4:00 – 6:00 – USMLE World questions
6:00 – 7:00 – Reply to emails, eat dinner
7:00 – 10:00 – USMLE World questions
10:00 – 11:00 – Shower, pleasure book, beddy by

That should give me about 8 hours of good study time in each day. I will then either take the whole weekend off, or perhaps study for a least a few hours on Sunday.

I learned a bunch of cool stuff in radiology today, but since I’m already behind on my studying schedule, I better quit blogging and start studying!

I’m so happy that you posted this one ..

I am starting my final year in about two weeks and I am so messed up!
in Jordan , the final year ( 6th year) is basically another chance to re-do the peds, gyne-ob, internal medicine and surgery rotations but we concentrate more on the management of patients rather than learning about the signs and symptoms.
at the end of the year we’ll have 4 written exams, 4 OSCEs and 4 oral exams !!
so I have the whole year to prepare without any form of challenging my skills or knowledge and we are basically left alone to do whatever we want with our books and papers !!

to make this long paragraph of a point : I have been thinking/ researching of how to put up together a schedule or some plan to get the fullest medical experience and to be full equipped when I face the world as a DOCTOR ..

so plz keep posting about your studying approach and what work for you .. wishing you the best of the best..
    :)

It’s a tough call. I’ve only barely opened the Crush book, but so far I think I like them both about the same. Honestly, doing questions seems to work the best for me. I learn better via questions, and will remember something a lot more if I get it wrong, and then read the explanation.

You are going to do great!

I was helping my sister study for it a few months back and most of it seemed not so bad…Im sure with your experience and knowledge it should be a breeze…remember to greet the patient and wash your hands! lol.

    Good Luck Lady

[...] Ahhh, that feels so good. I just finished my requisite hours of USMLE Step 2 CK studying for the week. I am now entitled to a weekend break with no studying. I can catch up on some errands and deal with my growing inbox. As I mentioned before, I will be taking the USMLE Step 2 CK on July 1st. My basic study plan involves studying M-F, and taking the weekends off. I posted my general schedule here. [...]
