It’s My Birthday and I’ll Cry If I Want To
Yes, it’s true. Today is my 30th birthday. Do I feel old? A little. Do I care? Not so much. I remember thinking when I was around 13, “I wonder who I will be when I’m 30. I wonder what I’ll be doing and what I’ll look like.” I don’t think I ever could have guessed that I’d look like I do now, and would be doing what I’m doing now.
Anyway, yes I might someday discuss the stuff that’s been going on in my life lately, but right now I don’t want to. I simply want to enjoy my birthday today.
I have a day of cleaning, grocery shopping, and dog walking planned. But after all those “BP” items, I do plan on having some fun. We shall see how much fun.
Also, I wanted to publicly respond to an email that I received yesterday. The author (who used a fake email to be anonymous) sent this email:
I’ve noticed the focus of your blog is becoming less and less about your experiences in medical school and your clinicals to a blog about broken baby carriages and nonsense. Please refocus your blog.
To them, I would like to reply (since I can’t reply via the fake email addy they left), “you can suck it.”
Actually, I’m not being hostile, but I just don’t think it was that nice of an email. I don’t get paid to write this blog. I never said that the purpose of this blog was to teach other people about medical school. This blog is about me. Yes, perhaps that’s somewhat self-indulgent. But that’s what it is. I try to write about certain topics to help other people out there, but that’s not the main purpose of my blog. If I want to post photos of broken baby strollers, I will. If I want to post nothing for a week, I will. It’s my blog, and I’ll do what I want with it!
For anyone who’s ever tried to maintain a blog, I’m sure they can attest that it’s sometimes quite challenging to continue to be prolific, and find stuff to write about every day. It’s not the easiest thing in the world. And yes, I would actually like to write some more med school related material, but I can’t do it unless I’m inspired. And lately, I haven’t been inspired.
So, there you go Mr./Mrs. Anonymous!
Anyway, today is my special day and I’m going to enjoy it!
Hap Hap Happy Birfday to me!

I’ll also comment that I enjoy reading your blog, no matter what you write about.
Darn Tootin— you can write about whatever you feel like! Who would even make a comment like that on YOUR blog? What Ev…. (this may be the first time I’ve ever actually used that phrase) Anyway, you go girl! And yes, “big sibbies” will always take up for their lil’ sisters, so, to quote the Paula Poundstone PopTarts Comedy Video we Campbell’s know and love…”Go away you big bad man!” (or woman….what Ev..)
Happy Birthday Kendra! I have been following your blog since the moment I thought about going to Ross. I am now at SGU and have my own blog, and your blog inspired me to do it. I think you are amazing and I thank you for posting whenever and whatever you do. (And I’m 30, it is not so bad.)
Happy Birthday~ Happy Birthday~ Happy Birthday to you, Kendra. You do look way younger than 30. I would never guessed you are 30. So good job on accomplishing of where you are. And, main importantly, thank you for sharing with us your blogs. I love it regardless. Enjoy your birthday. Wish you all the best.
Happy birthday. Good grief – how can people be bothered to send emails like that? Just stop reading, or go find another blog. I enjoy the random pictures. Keep em coming (if you want to!)
happy birthday kendra, I’m currently a firsty at ross. it’s stressful but I look up to you as an inspiration…. So that goes to show that you’ve done more than enough in your blogs…
Is that Howey? He looks so young! Don’t let the jealous haters get you down. It is probably some writer who applied for the position of medscape and didn’t get it.
