Oh, the Formaldehyde Memories!

Sinky anatomy books I am extremely happy to say that it turns out that I have not turned into a complete slacker, wandering the streets of Baltimore, eating sushi and drinking blood marys. Nosiree, I have instead finally found my study groove. It’s BAAAACK! Turns out I just needed the right environment, an espresso maker, and chocolate covered espresso beans. I made a schedule for studying for the Step (will post soon for all ye curious souls), and it’s working fabulously. I’m making incredible progress. Today is embryology and anatomy review day. Luckily, I kept all of my old anatomy books, and I’ve whipped them out today to use as a great study aid. If you’re a first year med student, here’s a tip: some of your books you’ll never use again, but the anatomy ones are an awesome resource. Hang on to those suckers.

When I opened my anatomy books this morning, I was surprised to find my nostrils bathed in the smell of formaldehyde. Yes, that’s right, I used these books years ago in the anatomy lab around the corpses, and they soaked up the unforgettable smell of the formaldehyde. Much to my surprise, the smell still lingers on the pages today. Ahhh, the memories this smell brings back to me!
