Cost of Living at Ross University

Since I keep getting this question, I thought I’d share what I know. The following is simply an ESTIMATE of what you might pay for cost of living here at Ross. Obviously, it will vary based on how many times you go out to eat, blast your AC, etc.

Here is what you can expect to pay per month in US Dollars:

Rent: $300 – $1,200 (This completely depends on where you live and the amenities. See this post.

Water: Usually included in the rent

Electricity: $30 – $225 ($30 if you never use the AC, $225 if you blast it.)

Cable/Internet: Usually included in rent (Otherwise I think it’s around $50.)

Food: $200 – $1000 (Depending on whether you cook your own food or eat at Subway, etc.)

Phone: $20 – $80 (For cell phone minutes. Very few people have landline phones. Also, depends on how much you use them. Skype is way cheaper for calling home!)

Laundry: $25

School Supplies (excluding books): $60

Entertainment: $50 – $300 (Obviously, this depends on what you like to do!)

Okay, I hope that helps!

I am curious as to why food is so expensive?!?
Does the food cost more there, or do you generally spend this much, even in the states?
    Wow.

Actually, thanks for asking, because I messed up the conversion on that one. $200 – $1,000 is more realistic. I think I usually spend somewhere around $400 a month, though. Some things are just outrageously expensive here. Anything that gets imported from the States usually costs at least twice much as it normally would. For example, a can of soup costs about $7 US. That makes it easy to spend a lot on food. Add to that the fact that you’re a med student and have little time to cook your own food, and next thing you know you’re spending a lot of money on food every month. On the other hand, local fruits and vegetables are very cheap here. So, if you can take the time to buy local and make your own food, you can live cheaply. It’s just really hard to do that AND go to med school at times.

If you’re not concerned with eating properly, you can just boil water for oatmeal at breakfast. Again for Ramen at lunch, and for a delightful change have cereal for dinner.

This will leave you plenty of extra cash for drinks when the hurricane comes. ;)

    Hi Kendra,
I have no words to say to your dedication to help people but I wish you the best in your life and may God be with you all the time. Having said that, I was wondering if you could enlighten me on how to get loans for paying Ross. My situation is a little different I have a bad credit which I stopped paying as well as I went overdraft on my bank account last year and did not pay up the amount I owe. So do you have any idea how that affects my chance of getting loans, interest rates….e.t.c
    Thanks
    Ted.
