Survivor Dominica
I finally was brave enough to go running today. After a two week hiatus due to being sick, I was so itching to get some exercise. My lungs are still pretty yucky, but I thought I’d give it a try anyway. It actually ended up going pretty well, but I had a pretty interesting experience during my run.
As I came into Portsmouth, I saw a bunch of Dominican men in army fatigues, who I guess were from the military. They quickly put up their hands and told me to stop running. I did, but had to get the three dogs with me to agree to stop as well. Then, two helicopters suddenly appeared and landed just a few yards away. A few minutes later, a bunch of young men and women dressed in bikinis and beach clothes got out of the helicopters, along with some crew members with videocameras. All the crew people were wearing “Survivor Dominica” t-shirts. I quickly realized what was going on. Apparently, they are filming the next season of Survivor here in Dominica. I find this pretty entertaining, actually.
According to the show, “sixteen average Americans are abandoned in the middle of some of the most unforgiving places on earth” to duke it out and be the remaining “survivor” on the island. I can’t help but laugh at thinking of Dominica as “one of the most unforgiving places on earth.” I mean, if you are really hungry and you don’t feel like catching fish or killing a wild cow, you could always just go to Subway. Anyway, I think I’ll try and find one of the episodes when it comes out. I’ve never seen the show before, but it would be funny to see how the producers make Dominica appear to be a scary place to “survive.” Maybe I’ll even see the shot of me with my three dogs in the background.

I’m so glad to hear you are starting to feel better. I’m still on the fence on what you gone recently, but hey its your life. Congratz on aching all of your exams during this time and good luck with the rest of this semester and 3 more yrs after this.

I was in Dominica last week on vacation and saw a scene being filmed on the Indian River as well. We were not allowed to drive through. I did hear from a lady at the airport who was somehow involved with the production that it is actually a new twist, and not the same as survivor, but by the same production company. It is going to be something called “pirate masters” or something. I will also be watching out for the show!
I was reluctant to write on this story, but now I’m positive its survivor …Thx Karen…. by the way great post.

CRAP! Now we definately have to come visit this winter–before it is aired and Dominica becomes a hyped up popular tourist destination (i hate it when that happens).. Imagine me “”aaaaa..am I the first one here?!..No, we live here..” good ole Paula Poundstone–still cracks me up! love you, hang in there..and yeah, now that Micah is famous-let’s hear more about him on your blog!? he’s meeting with Apple people??? what does he have against Plums??!!
I live in Castle Comfort on Dominica, and they keep closing the road to Roseau because of the Survivor people staying at Anchorage. Arrgh! We laughed also at anyone having trouble “surviving” on this most benign island…
