Midori Sours
The photo in this post was taken today during our suture clinic. I sutured the chairs in our classroom, and while I did a horrible job, I still managed to put in about 8 sutures. But yes, quality, and not quantity is what’s important! I really do still need so much practice. The other girl in the picture is Midori, my friend from Japan who has a British accent (don’t ask her to explain!). Today I scrubbed into one debridement surgery, and observed another. I’m sure I learned a lot, but since I can’t remember it all, here’s a very short list.
1) The operating room is my new favorite place.
2) How to use a curette to debride a wound.
3) How amazing it is to watch a small hole turn into a very big one because you have to slice off so much necrotic tissue.
4) I heart suctioning massive amounts of pus.
5) I understand why Grey’s Anatomy is based on a surgery residency. There is just no other field that brings people so close together. I love all of you fellow surgery students on my rotation!
6) I should become a professional holder of legs in the air.
My name is Kendra and I am a fourth-year medical student attending
Mom,
remember when I had to clean my wound with gun powder and then sew up my own arm? Or was that Rambo? I get us confused.
What? You’re not suturing your own flesh yet? Try to get a small wound this weekend.
“why don’t they give us a chicken?” :Midori questioning the inadequate suturing/practice supplies provided by the hospital for the students. I want to stay next to her at all times and write a book of her Midori-isms
Yes, Katrina you are soooo right! And don’t forget “give me some of those pickles!”
Oh my god Kendra and Katrina – I never knew I was discussed about on some random website!!!! Kendra didn’t even mention about her own weblog and Katrina I thought you were meant to be studying like crazy for your exam – what are you doing here!? Kendra is very bad with any kinds of electronics and I really don’t understand how it’s possible for her to manage this website. She also has a horrible handwriting.
I told you that you were famous, Midori! And why do you think I have a website?! So I don’t have to use my handwriting!
“I should become a professional holder of legs in the air.” … and I love this comment!!! You indeed were amazing holding a leg high up in the air and I tried not to look at you guys it was too funny – Kendra holding a leg above her head from some strange angle, and a girl behind her squeezing her scrub tight so it won’t touch the bed (= thus preventing contamination) and the resident came in asking “are you guys OK…?” … everything was so comical. Shame I couldn’t take a pic. Just everything about you is comical Kendra and I love the entertainment you give us. Keep up the good work!
