I Remember When…

I have so much to write about right now, but I don’t have the time. My schedule is seriously maxed out. So, here’s the abbreviated version. I took my exam. I did really well. I wish I would have gotten a slightly higher grade in pharm, but other than that, I really can’t complain. I had my first hospital visit of the semester on Tuesday. I spent five hours in the operating theatre (that’s what they call the operating room here). It was amazing. I watched five different surgeries. Then I got to interview and perform a physical exam on a patient. Turns out that he had Dengue fever. If you haven’t read in the news, there have been outbreaks in the Caribbean recently, and even a student here came down with it. That’s all I have time to write for now. I will try to post again soon. But I have so much to do right now that it’s insane.

In the interim, please enjoy these pics that my mom just sent me. I’m in every picture. See if you can figure out which one I am. And in case you didn’t know already, I grew up on a dairy goat farm. (Hence the crazy goat obsession.)

    Hi Kendra:

I appreciate that you are an extremely busy student as all students are. But I would like to know a little more about Dengue in Dominica.

I am an Environmental Health Officer with responsibility for Dengue prevention in the British Virgin Islands. Thus, I track Dengue throughout the region and the Americas while keeping abreast of worldwide infestations and outbreaks. I depend not only on Government sanctioned data but also on anecdotal information.

My first question is, do you have any sense as to how widespread Dengue is in DA? And by the way, was it at the Princess Margaret Hospital that you saw the Dengue patient?

You also said that a student at Ross came down with Dengue. Since I am originally from Portsmouth, I would also like to know if the virus is circulating there right now.
