Welcome Back to the Jungle
After a fantabulous time in the States visiting my friends and family, I made it back to Dominica yesterday afternoon. I was so excited to open my apartment door and find my lovely puppies waiting to lick and hug me. Well, I got a puppy surprise, indeed. Scope and Molly had managed to tear up the entire apartment and poop and pee on just about everything. They had even eaten our mattress! After spending hours putting the place back together again, I emptied our luggage and surprised Scope and Molly with their brand new, luxury, sherpa bed. They both fit in it quite snuggly, and I think it’s their new favorite place.
A few hours ago, I found an incredibly cute little puppy wrapped up on my front porch. Since I’ve become somewhat of a local puppy shelter, I immediately brought her in, gave her a flea bath, de-wormed her, and fed her food and water. A little while later, my local friend Randy came by and asked me if I knew of someone who wanted the puppy. Apparently, he’d left it on my porch knowing that I would take care of it. Well, I don’t know anyone, but I told him I’d do my best to find her a home. If you’re reading this, and you are in Dominica, and you want a very cute puppy (black and white, like Scope), please send me an email and let me know! She’d be extremely happy to have a good home!

Re: being overweight in America – YES! Thankfully, everyone else is beginning to recognize this problem and acting on it, especially in the public school systems. Food is SO ABUNDANT in the USA and we have developed the habit of eating 3 or more meals daily when you only need between 1200 – 2000 calories daily, depending on your activity level to maintain current weight and 800-1100 if you are trying to lose weight. Many are habitually eating the high caloric/high carbo foods so easily available causing the obesity epidemic. Many are now paying the consequences of long-term obesity and I heard yesterday that nearly 8% of all Americans are now diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Maybe with continual reminders to eat right and exercise, the next generation of Americans will be healthier.
