So Long and Thanks for All the Chicken

Chicken SuitSayeh, an up and coming first semester Ross student visited Dominica a few days ago with her mother. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Sayeh via email over the past few months. She’ll be starting here in May and she came down with her mother to secure housing. Sayeh’s mom treated us all to a yummy dinner (I had a chicken sammich) a few nights ago, so I wanted to give her a big thanks! It was lovely meeting both of them, and I’m super excited for Sayeh on her upcoming med school adventure. I can’t believe I’m going to be a second year med student in about a month.

I just got back from taking the physiology Shelf Exam. It totally kicked my butt. I thought I knew my stuff in physio, but that exam just made me feel like an idiot. Hopefully, once they’ve curved it, I won’t have completely failed it. I really wanted to get an A in physio, but my Shelf score might end up bringing me down to a B! I know, I know, poor me. Anyway, I’d rather go shovel poop right now instead of studying. No seriously, I really would. I’m reaching the limits of my strength here. I’m seriously losing momentum. I just want all this to be over, and to be in the States gorging on sushi. We’ll all have to wait and see if I can make it to the end without losing my mind. If I don’t make it, you’ll likely see me walking around in a daze wearing a suit, similar to the one this chicken is wearing.

Thank you, I really enjoyed it also. Next time, you should try the pina colada at that restaurant. We flew into 40 degree weather last night…burrrr! As far as your exam, I’ll share a student’s story. After a microbiology exam, this student comes up to me and says, “That exam kicked my butt.” I say a few encouraging words like “DON’T WORRY, you are an intelligent person.” She walked up to me a week later and got a 100% on her exam (well 104% after the curve). So, don’t worry. Believe in yourself because I do and a lot of the world that reads your blogs believes in you also. SOOOOO…keep your head up high and be proud…you did it. You past the 1st year of medical school regardless of how many more exams you have left. In other words, “Girlfriend, you’ve got it going on.” Now go strut your fine self to your desk and study a little more.
    See you soon.
