The Anatomy of My Back

Kendra's Back I made it through my second day of medical school. I’m still having computer problems, but they are slowly getting better. I’ve learned that being a medical student on a tropical island means that you have to gently balance your need to get things done in a timely fashion with the needs of the island folks to get things done whenever they get done. I had my first gross anatomy lab today. I’m very very much in love with gross anatomy. We received our cadaver assignments, but we didn’t get to do any dissection. Our first incisions will take place next week. However, we did get to practice palpating live bodies. Every table had to have a volunteer to be palpated. I, of course, volunteered at my table. My tablemates palpated my neck, back, and spine, and drew lines where they thought my bones, vertebrae and organs were. I think they did a decent job, but I definitely wouldn’t want them performing a spinal tap on me. Our professor taught us how to perform percussions, though I still have no idea what he was talking about. I didn’t hear a dull sound or a resonance. Mostly I just hurt my finger. Ah, the pains of medical school!
